Organic Meal Kit Delivery: Green Chef

This post is brought to you by our sponsor Green Chef.

It’s been 3 weeks into the New Year and I’m already on a roll with my New Years resolution! So far I’ve been cooking every weekend and my family is reaping the benefits. When they see a box arrive at the house, they know that means some good cooking is about to happen. Or so I like to think. A girl can dream, right? This week I decided to try a new meal kit delivery service that is not only USDA certified organic but uses GMO free ingredients.  Talk about a win- win!

Green Chef is a USDA-certified organic meal kit delivery service. They offer fresh, sustainable, organic ingredients — pre-measured and largely prepped, including homemade sauces and marinades. Their 2-Person Plans include Omnivore, Carnivore, Paleo, Vegan, Vegetarian, and Gluten-Free Plans. Family Plans include family-style Omnivore and Carnivore Plans. Omnivore, Carnivore, and Family Plans allow for customization of protein preferences. You can opt out of receiving certain proteins, like beef, poultry, pork, lamb, shellfish, fish, or game. The price  varies based on the plan but they start from $10.49 per meal to $12.99 per meal. There’s no minimum commitment and you can skip weeks or cancel at any time.

As a Pescatarian, I chose the Omnivore plan and received one fish and 2 veggie meals. I had the Moroccan Chickpea Tagine,  Sesame-Crusted Salmon, and the Mushroom Barley Soup. Let me explain to you the joy I felt when I opened the box  to see pre-diced onions, potatoes and pre-made dressing and sauces! Some meal kit delivery companies don’t prep anything before-hand so the prep can be a little overwhelming, at least for me it is. So I was relieved to see that at least some of the work was already done.  All the ingredients were labeled and color coded according to the recipe card, Which made things super easy and helpful.

It’s advertise that the meals take about 35 minutes, but it really depends on how fast you are.  Each meal had a component that was pre-diced or pre-made as far as dressing and sauces goes. So the cook times really didn’t feel as long but I do think it depends if you have the right amount of equipment.  The basic items you will need to cook the meals are salt, pepper, olive oil,  cooking oil, pots and pans (ideally a range of sizes),  a good knife, strainer and a sheet pan.

Overall, these meals really took me out my comfort zone. It was my first time having  Moroccan Chickpea Tagine , wasabi potato salad,  and believe it or not mushroom soup. I liked them all and surprisingly my family did too, even the mushroom soup. It was pretty shocking due to the fact we’re not huge fans of mushrooms. It’s just something we always avoided and never really went out of our way to eat. I diced the mushrooms till they no longer appeared to be mushrooms and they loved it. Who would of thought? My cooking skills is slowly but surely expanding!

As a treat, I teamed up with Green Chef and you can now get $50 off your first box. Click here.

Happy Cooking!
