Baking is one of my favorite pastimes. There’s something magical about how a few basic ingredients, like flour, butter, and sugar, can transform into something incredibly delicious. So, you can imagine my surprise when I discovered that you can actually make bagels with just two ingredients!
While these homemade bagels might not be the authentic New York-style bagels, they’re a great alternative, especially with social distancing and quarantine making it difficult to enjoy takeout. These bagels come together quickly—there’s no need to proof the dough or boil the bagels. In just 30 minutes, you’ll have fresh, homemade bagels ready to enjoy.
Creating different bagel flavors is also simple! In my latest Forksandstraws YouTube video, I show you how to make cinnamon raisin and everything bagels with just a few ingredients: cinnamon, raisins, and a jar of Everything Bagel Seasoning from Trader Joe’s. I even created a Cucumber Avocado Lox Bagel sandwich, which is perfect for satisfying all your breakfast bagel and brunch cravings. You can find the recipe below for easy reference!
These bagels last about 3-4 days when stored properly in an airtight container, but they likely won’t last that long—my family devoured them in no time!
Pro Tip: Use full-fat whole milk Greek yogurt for a rich, balanced flavor from the natural fats and salt. If you want to make these bagels vegan, simply substitute with vegan Greek yogurt. Don’t have self-rising flour? No worries! You can use all-purpose flour and add 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon of fine salt for each cup of flour.
